    Airspeed Weight Factor

Can anyone tell me how to correctly use this value to calculate the calibrated airspeed?

    Hello Ed,

what file is the factor in?

    CAS = sqrt(sigma) * TAS; sigma = air density/ 1.0256 kg/m^3

    Re: Airspeed Weight Factor

That's for FS9?  I've progressed to FSX now.

Looking into the MD-80 Air file (and cfg) the slope of TBL 1506 is all choppy.

I'm plotting the slope and tweaking the data points to smooth it.    :))

Attention to detail you know. Really tho, some of the Flaps data may need editing as the nose pitch doesn't seem quite right.

    Re: Airspeed Weight Factor

Yes for FS9 but should be for FS10 soon I think. Then MS ESP possibly.

    http://www.microsoft.com/esp/

It's obviously MS FS11 re-branded! Any one know about the pricing model for retail licences yet?

ESP is not FS11 re-branded.  It's FSX, without the user interface.  It's primary purpose is for use by companies such as Boeing and the like.

ESP is also no longer available.  Microsoft shut down all aspects of Flight Simulator some months back and the product is no longer produced.

    Re: Airspeed Weight Factor

    Hello WarpD,

Nice to know. OK FS 10 went unsupported from Jan 2009 although FS9 is still on sale here in the UK in retail shops.

If you go to the ESP site they are promoting that. I am not sure what you are saying is no longer available. I thought that was FS10 support.

So how do we get ESP and will it be of any use?

    Re: Airspeed Weight Factor

Microsoft closed ACES.  ACES was the group that developed FS, TS and ESP.  All companies that had purchased an ESP license were notified of it's termination.

ESP is for commercial use.  As I stated, it's FSX without it's user interface.  It's primary target was for companies like Boeing.

    Hello Ed,

I assume you sorted out your CAS question by now

    http://www.microsoft.com/esp/

So only volume sales. I wonder if AvHistory or AvSIM could buy a site licence!

Or may be third party developers could do a similar thing.

    Re: Airspeed Weight Factor

I was able to ignore the CAS issue.  I needed to calculate TAS at any given moment/altitude/weight... etc.  So, yes I resolved the issue.

ESP is not something that can be used outside of a commercial environment.  The licensing is extremely expensive per installation, it's not for our use.  Intentionally.

It's purpose is to allow commercial entities to create modifications to the base aerodynamics code for their own internal use.  Not for resale to anyone/everyone.  Not for public consumption.  Not for competition against Microsoft's own FS.

I have no idea why it's still available, however I do know the entire team is gone. *poof!*

Ok.. now what has happened to this forum?  I see there is only this one single post in the whole of DECODE!!  It was only a week or two ago, IIRC that I saw at least a few topics here. What's going on... does someone actively delete content?

I have no idea.  Ever since they switched to this new forum and all the old posts were lost, I really haven't seen any discussion.

Big Smile [:D] Re: Airspeed Weight Factor

    Hello Gregory and Ed,

Since Ron's passing we don't have an MC to stir things up. Most development has gone commercial so there may not be that many home buliders left.

But there is probably a whole new class of hackers out there who want a bit of hand holding. One technique was to post on AvSim etc and then say this is getting a bit technical and draw people over to AvHistory and that got more eye balls here. It's just a matter of promotion and advertising. You only get out what you put in and Ron did have his rants. I enjoyed arguing with him as it was both entertaining and informative as some one would be able to dig out some obscure and difficult data but need others to make some more use of it. I remember Ron getting some propellor CFD code which was very simple to rewrite in another language and run which gave the correct propellor coefficient curves for the .air file.

Gregory, a thread is composed of many posts Big Smile

    So over to you..........
