Again - Service Pack 1 should fix alot of bugs - hopefully itl take care of this one.

When i first used AVH aircraft, something was misplaced in one of the files, an important one. cant remember which though - but the computer either unzipped it incorectly or it had  been misplaced to begin with. once this was fixed, it solved my problem - but yeah vista is pretty brutal sometimes right now.  

Service Pack 1 is coming out soon for vista which will make it probably at least 10x better. as with XP, it should do wonders. So ide suggest waiting for SP1 to be released before trying this meathod, but its up to you. SP1 will hopefully have a fix for this problem as it is not exclusive to any game or program. seems to affect random things, but ...

 by crash, did it actually crash or did you get an error message saying "cfs3 has stopped working... blah blah blah... Microsoft is searching for a solution"

Does it crash whenever you select an aircraft, or do you get the error message?

Turned out weapons files were in proper locations.   sidenote: readme is placed in the folder named "weapons" makes it difficult to find lol 

Im operating on a vista, and get the error message "cfs3 has stopped working"  this has happened many times before and is a serious problem with vista. closes every game ive used so far except CoD.
